Hello, World

Hello, World. This is my first blog entry.

Seeing as I am a computer programmer, the above line seemed appropriate. But saying that I’m a computer programmer isn’t the end of the story. While I program for a living, I am also an associate pastor at a small church in Iowa. But that’s not the end of the story either. I plan to continue my education, work for a doctorate, and then teach. Before moving to Iowa, I was an editor of Sunday school material and daily devotions. I still write for Take 5 and God’s Word for Today on assignment. I preach Sunday nights, usually in series. So far, we’ve done Old Testament Appreciation, Intertestamental Appreciation, and Errors of the Da Vinci Code. There are so many, you just have to decide which are most important. Misrepresenting the council of Nicea is one of the most important. First off, they discussed “what does it mean to say that Jesus is divine” not (as Brown argues) “is Jesus divine?” Secondly, I don’t care how you slice it, 316-2 is not a close vote! Right now, we are rolling through a Christian history series I call “Ancient Voices for Modern Issues.”

So, you’re probably wondering what kind of things I’ll be talking about in this blog. I love Biblical studies, especially the Old Testament. I also love Intertestamental writings and Christian origins. Christian history and notables of it stand a good chance of being discussed. Anyone who knows me knows that I am a voracious reader. I’ll likely talk about some of my favorite books (e.g. Out of the Silent Planet), series (e.g. Discworld), and authors (e.g. G. K. Chesterton, etc.). Some days I may talk about the fantasy series I’ve been working on or movies that relate to worldview.

I do intend for this blog to be more serious in its endeavors, but I won’t be serious all the time. If you read Discworld, you’ll understand that I have something of a nonserious side.

I look forward to your more serious Discworld discourses. You were the first person to begin recommending the series to me. Now, with book loans from a friend who buys all those books, I’ve read 15 to 20 of them. You were right! I love them!
